The Council of German  Planetaria (Rat Deutscher Planetarien, RDP) is an informal group of planetarium professionals. It was founded in 1987, and represents those planetaria that
     -        are located in Germany
     -        offer public presentations on a regular schedule
     -        have an minimum annual attendance of 10.000 visitors
     -        have at least one employed staff member, being a delegate of RDP

The members of the RDP share a total of about 1.5 million visitors each year, which is more than 90 per cent of the cumulative attendance of all planetaria in Germany.

The Council promotes and supports the mutual exchange of professional information among planetaria and communicates their common interests towards the public. RDP is an affiliate member of the International Planetarium Society IPS and serves as a representation of the planetarium profession in Germany. 

The officers of RDP are the Chairperson and its deputy, serving as spokespersons of the group. The Chairman coordinates the activities of the Council and  represents RDP on national and international level.

Members of RDP meet semi-annually in autumn and spring. The springtime meeting is always part of the conference of the Working Group of German-language Planetaria (Arbeitsgemeinschaft deutschsprachiger Planetarien, ADP).

ADP-Conferences are the main platform for information and communication of people who are connected with the operation of a planetarium in German-speaking countries. The next conference is scheduled for May 29-31, 2010 in Bochum.
